How do you get your kids to practice?

This is our little pianist:

Pogi enjoyed Dom’s talented playing and singing.

This was how we spent our Sunday evening. Then Nathan made some pasta that included chard grown in our garden. Dom picked out and ate all of his kalamata olives and was bummed we didn’t have anymore to give him when those were gone. Add those to the next shopping list.

Our goal is that by this time next year, Dom will have learned to sing and play happy birthday for aunt Mern, Grumma, Teddy, Marissa, and other August birthdays.

Summer Night

It’s just after 8:00 and Dom just went down for the night (or at least most of the night). Nathan’s at the kitchen table working on finals.

We had honey glazed salmon and brussel sprouts for dinner. Dom even tried several bites of the fish. He washed it down with apple/squash puree.

Can somebody explain to me what it is about summer nights that feel…nostalgic?

Storms = Beautiful Sunsets

I took a different route home from work yesterday evening. Why? In part because Nathan had parent teacher conferences so he wouldn’t be home yet, why should I be in a hurry? And also, so that I could take a picture of the sunset with my cell phone. It’s times like these when I wish I had the fancy camera to really capture the beauty, but for a cell phone pic, it’s okay.

Also, sunsets after storms in Salt Lake are another thing that makes me happy, especially after cold, brisk October storms!

Did you see the sunset yesterday, too?

Last Contest’s Winner: Kaakun, again. Yippee. Woop-i-dee-doo on another win. Still working on setting up the webcam so you can “be there” for the ceremony. Just have to go down to the church office building…

Last Contest’s Winner: Me. Nobody liked my sock drawer, apparently, so I posted my own caption. Congratulations, Larrie. Why thank you very much. One day, I knew I could do it. I knew you could, too. Go me!

Last Contest’s Winner: Hooray, Mom! I avoid the big pile of stuff when I eat Cheesecake Factory cheesecake as well, since they must use an entire can of whip cream for each slice. Sadly that day, we left some of our cheesecake uneaten because we filled our stomachs with the delicious, sweet corn cake appetizer.

Last Contest’s Winner: High five, Janet! Loved the fact that you smack-talked Snape in your comment. And to blog nod Janet: all my life (I’m sure of it), I’ve wanted to be like her so I finally made my move to become a BA at work, only to find out that she added an I to her job title. What’s a Business INTELLIGENCE Analyst? That sounds smart…

Last Week’s Winner: Way to go Braden. It’s really tough to win when you’re the only comment. Great jo-arb! I was initially hoping Grumma would step up and post a comment about how the pie is “to die for,” but I must admit that it was strange humor that Braden said obituary pie is made of people. Dead people?

Last Week’s Winner: Give it up for Shannon! Her comment made me laugh because the lady was so POLITE about showing up half naked. Back to Shanny… she’s one of the “Unspeakables” and we’re not talking about the Untouchables… TOTALLY different. We knew each other for many, many years and sadly did not turn it into a true friendship until our senior year of high school. That year, there was a whole group of us who got together to make a movie, hang out, go to a dance, and shower in our clothes. Turns out, that whole group had gone to the same schools for eons and yet, we hadn’t come together as a rambunctious group of friends until we were about to graduate. Seriously. So, I had to convince Shanny to be my roommate down at the B.Y. and the rest is history – a history of MIA cleaning buckets, ice cream pow wows and Backstreet Boys lip-syncing.
